AUGUST GENERAL MEETING

 

The August General Meeting of the Eric Huberth VFW Post 11395 was held on the 9th of the month. It was convened in the usual place, the Thousand Oaks Elk's Lodge at 158 N. Conejo Road in Thousand Oaks.

 

Commander Carter chaired the meeting and proceeded with the opening ceremonies. After the opening prayer for the meeting, he led those present in recitation of Section 230l02 of the Congressional Charter. Following that was the roll call of the Post Officers and all were present or accounted for.

 

July Meeting Minutes

Commander Carter then asked the Adjutant to read the minutes of the July, 2011 General Meeting. Gene Ogden offered them as they appeared in the newsletter with the correction of acknowledgement of omitting the installation of the 2011/2012 Post Officers, in them. A motion was carried to accept them as published, with the correction of the omission.

 

Quartermaster's Report

Quartermaster Harper was then asked to present his report for the month of July, 2011. His report covered, in detail, all the financial transactions for the month of July. This included all receipts and disbursements of funds made during the entire month.

Receipts - Bank interest; Poppy receipts; and Transfer of funds to the General Fund.

Disbursements - Telephone bills; Yahoo Account; Newsletter printing; VFW National Home donation: Stand Down Books & Forms; Stand Down reception agenda; Stand Down donuts; Stand Down Friday lunch; and Transfer of reserve funds to the General fund.

 

Bob announced that the new budget is now in effect and we are presently keeping within our budget.

 

Service Officer's Report

Gene Ogden gave the Service Officer's Report as Hank Papeika was on the East Coast during most of the month of July. During that time Jack Carter, Maynard Gentry, and Gene made the scheduled visit to the Sepulveda VA Medical Center campus.

 

The usual personal care items were delivered for the residents of the NHCU and Hospice wing. Also during that trip visit to the DAV transportation office (no one home) was made and a note left for them to return our call, which they did. It was concerning Stand Down transportation.

 

Committee Reports - Gene announced that the 19th Annual Stand Down was a success and that a list of the 13 Adopt a Vet interviews was made and their needs are being worked on. Poppy supplies are ordered for the November VFW Poppy event . We need a maximum of volunteers for this two day event.

 

Old Business - There is nothing to report.

 

Unfinished Business - There is no unfinished business to report.

 

New Business - The Adopt a Vet list of needy veterans is in the process of determining needs and our capabilities of helping.

 

Good of the Order -

(1) Post received correspondence was read.

(2) The Attendance Pool was not held during this meeting and a motion carried limiting participation in the pool to Post members only from here forward.

(3) There will be a group to meet with Ventura County District 2 Supervisor, Linda Parks, in her new Thousand Oaks office on Friday the 19th of August.

(4) The last District 8 General Meeting was held on the 17th of September. See Commander Carter for details.

(5) There is to be a Veteran's Day walk to raise funds for the good of our service men and women on November 11, 201 1 . This is being conducted by Agoura High School and we have been invited to provide a presence. See Bob Harper for details.

 

No further business was discussed so, the Commander brought the meeting to a close.

 

SEPTEMBER GENERAL MEETING

 

On the l3th of September, the Eric Huberth VFW Post held its General Meeting. The meeting was held at the Elk's Lodge in Thousand Oaks. Prior to the business meeting, the Commander introduced a guest. Barbara Gentry, wife of Maynard, presented a substantial donation to the Post in the name of her late grandson Travis Matthew. He was a Marine Corps veteran and had served in Afghanistan for a year. After the departure of the guest, Commander Carter opened the meeting for business. The opening ceremonies included a prayer, pledge of allegiance, and recitation of the appropriate section of our congressional Charter. A role call of the Post Officers accounted for their presence or whereabouts.

 

August Meeting Minutes

In lieu of the Adjutant reading the minutes from the August General Meeting, he offered them as they appear in the minutes passed out prior to the General Meeting. A motion was carried to accept them as published.

 

Quartermaster's Report

Bob Harper presented his report for the month of August, 2011. It included all the transactions for the entire month, including all receipts and disbursements.

Receipts - Bank interest; VFW dues; and Newsletter Ads.

I)isbursements - QM bond; Yahoo account; NHCU personal care items; Vet aid; and Post Postage.

 

Also reported that we are still on budget and we had received a check from Tony Noyes was the first to donate for not being able to stand our November Poppy Drive.


Service Officer's Report

Hank Papeika reported on his most recent trip to the Sepulveda VA campus with Maynard Gentry and Gene Ogden. They delivered the usual personal care items to the NHCU.

 

Committee Reports - Gene mentioned that all open actions on the needy veterans interviewed at Stand Down have been completed. It was also mentioned that all of the items are ready for the Veterans Day VFW Buddy Poppy event.

 

Old Business - Stand Down action items are closed.

 

Unfinished Business - There is no unfinished business to report.

 

New Business - Gene Ogden accepts the action to contact the Veteran's Day Walk on the 1lth of November which is being conducted, by Agoura High School, to raise funds for our Service Men and Women. He is to learn what our involvement would be.

 

Good of the Order -

(1) The District 8 Meeting was held on Saturday, September 17, 2Ol1

(2) Post correspondence from the Sepulveda VA Medical Center and also from the Thousand Oaks RSVP was read.

(3) Hank Papeika, Berle Spurlock, and Gene Ogden made up the delegation that met with Linda Parks, our District 2 Ventura County Supervisor. The group had a detailed escorted tour of her new offices and it was a very productive meeting.

(4) The Attendance Pool was conducted without a winner.

 

No further business was discussed so, the Commander brought the meeting to a close.

 

The next General Meeting will be on November 8th.
